My Fastest mile ever!!!  8:39!!!

Through my life I have lived a few trials and tribulations.  Everyone has.  I’m no different than most people.  One exception is that I have managed at this point to loose over 100 pounds in the last three years.

I don’t know what got into me finally.  Maybe something in my brain finally told me I wasn’t happy and I couldn’t go on living the way I was.  So I started doing some yoga.  Then after that, I started following Leslie Sansone’s “Walk Away the Pounds”  I probably lost 30 pounds following those videos.  They were great because I didn’t have to go embarrass myself at the gym with how out of shape I was.  You just popped the DVD in and away you went.  I ended up with a variety of the DVD’s.  After awhile, I wanted to do something a little different, so I started going to spin classes and after a while I lost another 30 pounds!  That really got my started riding bikes outside.

Then I had a little derailment.  I hurt my back and eventually had to have back surgery.  It took about 4 months for them to exhaust all the other options and just do the surgery.  Before I went in, I could barely walk.  After I sat down from walking, I had an enormous pain in my ass, literally, and it would shoot down into my calf and my foot would go numb.  You can imagine I didn’t exercise during this period, but I ate well enough that I didn’t gain any weight back.  I remember just a few hours after my surgery, they had me stand up and walk around.  I cried.  I could walk again, there was no pain, no numbness.  It was like being born again.  Obviously you can’t workout too hard after surgery, so I had another month off, then I went to physical therapy for a month, to get my muscles and mobility built back up.  I had an awesome therapist and she incorporated a lot of pilates in the sessions.

“It’s the damndest thing — the United States is in a health care crisis, the economy is shaky, and the government subsidizes the production of corn, making high-fructose corn syrup cheaper than dirt. Processed food manufacturers make crap foods that are making us sick, diabetic, and dead too early. The government subsidizes the development of statins and a host of drugs to manage the diseases that are a direct outgrowth of the processed foods. A hell of a racket, am I right?”
